I got to go see Peter Murphy yesterday at the House of Blues in Dallas. He put on an amazing show. Even though he’s in his 50’s I think his voice sounds better than ever. His set consisted of a nice mixture of newer stuff, older stuff, and covers. Here are the highlights:
NIN - Hurt
Peter did a great cover of Hurt. But I think Johnny Cash’s version takes the cake…even better than NIN’s original.
I’ll Fall on Your Knife
Excellent live rendition.
Bauhaus - Bela Lugosi’s Dead
Peter incorporated Bela Lugosi’s Dead lyrics/riffs into I’ll Fall on Your Knife. It was awesome!
Joy Division - Transmission
Transmission was crazy good. He rocked it hard.
Cuts You Up
For his 3rd - and final - encore he did Cuts You Up…but it was punched up to a higher tempo and the keyboards were replaced by guitar. It was soooooo good. I’m hoping to find it on YouTube, or maybe he’ll release it at some point in the future.
